A native of central Texas, Dr. Nilson received her Master of Science in Physical Therapy from Texas State University in 2005. The focus of her clinical practice has always been in the outpatient setting primarily treating neuromusculoskeletal disorders and sports injuries. She has had the pleasure of working for Central Texas Medical Center in San Marcos and Warm Springs Rehabilitation in San Antonio as a senior therapist, aquatics program coordinator and center coordinator for clinical education. From 2011 to 2014 she had the honor of playing a key role in the development and implementation of the very first Functional Restoration Program (FRP) for the Interdisciplinary Pain Management Center (IPMC) at San Antonio Military Medical Center, Fort Sam Houston. The FRP was created in response to the Office of the Surgeon General concern over the growing opioid dependency among service members. The FRP was designed as a multidisciplinary approach to the treatment and management of chronic pain. While stationed with her husband in the Sonoran Desert, she had the opportunity to expand her professional network providing as needed services for Maximum Impact Physical Therapy Services, serving residents of the Old Pueblo and surrounding communities.
Dr. Nilson is passionate about patient care and education. Over the course of her career she has advanced her clinical skills in the areas of orthopedic manual therapy, aquatic therapy, women’s health and pain management. In 2015, she completed her Doctorate in Physical Therapy at the University of Texas at San Antonio Health Science Center. She holds certifications in aquatic therapy, clinical instruction, and is a certified YMCA strength and conditioning instructor, specializing in group exercise and indoor cycling. She completed her RYT 200 (Registered Yoga Teacher) certification with Shanti Garudasana through Yoga Alliance in 2019 and is pursuing her Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist certification through the National Strength and Conditioning Association. She currently maintains professional Physical Therapy Licensure in Texas and Virginia. She also holds a Direct Access Certification in Virginia.
Dr. Nilson has presented on the topics of aquatics, aquatic manual therapy, pain management, and graded motor imagery at various state conferences. She has lectured at Texas State University, teaching anatomy and physiology for the Department of Physical Therapy, and has served as orthopaedic series faculty for the IPMC’s Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education accredited fellowship in pain medicine. She has also served as a contributing author on several poster presentations as well as a chapter in Case Studies in Pain Management. Most recently she has served as the leader for the Health & Wellness Ministry at Living Hope Church in Williamsburg, Virginia. Encouraging her family in Christ to be well and live a life that glorifies our King.
Her professional interests include: orthopaedic and sports rehabilitation, strength and conditioning, manual therapy, women’s health, nutrition, chronic pain, public ministry in health and wellness, sports psychology, patient direct access, patient education, patient empowerment, aquatic therapy, dry needling, clinical instruction, higher education, and public speaking. As a military spouse she is an advocate for interstate PT Compact privileges.
She is a proud military spouse and mother of two young adventure seekers. An avid adventurer herself, she enjoys spending time with her family, hiking, camping, lifting heavy things, eating real food, reading, hot yoga, kayaking, fishing, hunting, painting, live music, and antiquing.
