What is Physical Therapy?
Physical therapy is a dynamic profession with an established theoretical and scientific base and widespread clinical applications in the restoration, maintenance, and promotion of optimal physical function. Physical therapists:
The terms "physical therapy" and "physiotherapy," and the terms "physical therapist" and "physiotherapist," are synonymous.
As essential participants in the health care delivery system, physical therapists assume leadership roles in rehabilitation; in prevention, health maintenance, and programs that promote health, wellness, and fitness; and in professional and community organizations. Physical therapists also play important roles both in developing standards for physical therapist practice and in developing health care policy to ensure availability, accessibility, and optimal delivery of health care services. Physical therapy is covered by federal, state, and private insurance plans. Physical therapists' services have a positive impact on health-related quality of life.
As clinicians, physical therapists engage in an examination process that includes:
To establish diagnoses, prognoses, and plans of care, physical therapists perform evaluations, synthesizing the examination data and determining whether the problems to be addressed are within the scope of physical therapist practice. Based on their judgments about diagnoses and prognoses and based on patient/client goals, physical therapists:
Physical therapy can be provided only by qualified physical therapists (PTs) or by physical therapist assistants (PTAs) working under the supervision of a physical therapist.1
Who are Physical Therapists (PTs)?
Physical therapists (PTs) are health care professionals who diagnose and treat individuals of all ages, from newborns to the very oldest, who have medical problems or other health-related conditions that limit their abilities to move and perform functional activities in their daily lives.
PTs examine each individual and develop a plan using treatment techniques to promote the ability to move, reduce pain, restore function, and prevent disability. In addition, PTs work with individuals to prevent the loss of mobility before it occurs by developing fitness- and wellness-oriented programs for healthier and more active lifestyles.
Physical therapists provide care for people in a variety of settings, including hospitals, private practices, outpatient clinics, home health agencies, schools, sports and fitness facilities, work settings, and nursing homes. State licensure is required in each state in which a physical therapist practices.2
What is Concierge Physical Therapy?
Concierge physical therapy is patient-centered care with a focus on healthy living and injury prevention. Services are one-on-one with an experienced and skilled Physical Therapist and delivered in the comfort of your own home. Unlike most traditional outpatient Physical Therapy models, you have direct access to your Physical Therapist via phone/email/text, scheduling flexibility, and visits are unrushed and lengthier than standard clinics. This care model ensures each client receives excellent continuity of care and personalized attention to meet your desired goals. You are able to establish a trusted relationship with your Physical Therapist and will never be treated by an assistant or unlicensed technician. Concierge physical therapy is FREEDOM!
What is Direct Access?
Direct access means the client has access to physical therapists' services for evaluation and treatment without the need for a prescription or referral from a physician. The laws governing PT practice in the State of Virginia allow for evaluation and treatment for 30 days from the initial date of service before a prescription is required.3
Where does Thrive Physical Therapy & Wellness currently provide services?
Services are rendered in the comfort of your home or office. Our service area includes Williamsburg, Yorktown, Jamestown and surrounding areas. Do you live elsewhere? Contact us to see if you live within our service area, or to schedule a virtual consultation.
Do you take insurance?
As a small private practice, we value your time and feel that it is in the best interest of the client to employ a flat-rate service model. This allows us the freedom to work with you, for you, to meet your rehabilitation , fitness and wellness goals and achieve your fullest potential. Rates are based on 60 and 90 minute sessions, regardless of services rendered. Unlike most outpatient physical therapy business models, sessions are one-on-one with a skilled and experienced Doctor of Physical Therapy for the entire duration of care. Your plan of care is developed to meet your needs and can be structured with your time and budget in mind and is not limited by what your insurance determines is medically necessary. If your insurance carrier provides out-of-network benefits we can provide documentation, at your request, for you to submit for reimbursement.
How do I know if I have out-of-network benefits?
Most insurance providers provide online access to your description of benefits, or you can call the phone number listed on your insurance card and speak with a customer service representative to learn more.
What does my therapist provide?
Everything needed to deliver the best care! From the treatment table to exercise equipment, rest assured you're taken care of.
How much space do we need?
A room large enough to accommodate a standard massage table.
Can I use funds from my Healthcare Flexible Spending Account (HFSA) to pay for physical therapy or preventive services?
Absolutely! A Healthcare Flexible Spending Account, or "FSA," is a pre-tax benefit account that you can use to pay for eligible medical, dental, and vision care expenses that aren't covered by your health insurance plan. Check with your HFSA plan administrator to determine which medical and preventive services are eligible.
